How It Works Guide
FOR INDIVIDUAL SERVICES
INDIVIDUAL services: How to schedule, prepare, & attend
Schedule Your Appointment:
1) Go to the Scheduling page.
2) Select the service you want, then confirm your times zone.
3) On the calendar, click on the dark colored dates to see available time slots.
4) Click “continue” to select your time slot(s). To select multiple time slots to be purchased together, click “add a time” before clicking “continue.”
5) Fill out your personal info and click “pay now” or “confirm appointment” (depending on the type of service).
6) Enter your payment information and you’re done!
7) You will receive an e-mail from Douglass Voice Help with info on connecting to your appointment.
Prepare Your Technology:
1) Smart phone, tablet, or computer, with a camera built in (or with separate webcam).
2) 4G cell phone signal OR “high speed” internet (10-15 mbs is optimal): A good rule of thumb is: Cable internet is always fast enough, DSL is sometimes fast enough, and dial up is not fast enough. If you are using a smart phone or tablet, you will also need a smart device stand or other item to keep your device upright.
3) Headphones / earbuds (wired or wireless) with microphone: Any type of headphones will work, but it is recommended that you use headphones with a built-in microphone such as bluetooth earbuds or wired phone headset, so that the microphone is close to your mouth. You may use hearing aids as headphones, but you will ALSO need a microphone close to your mouth, such as a table-top microphone. Using speakers instead of headphones, or using your “speaker phone” function on your phone will not work well.
Prepare Your Environment & Materials:
Find a place that is well-lit (it is best to be facing a window). If using a smart device, try to find a place where you can prop the phone up at about table height, as it will be important for the instructor to be able to visualize your torso during sessions for breathing work.
THERAPY MATERIALS
1) 16 oz or larger cup filled with water. It is best if cup has lid and a hole for a straw (but lid is not necessary)
2) A drinking straw
3) Easy reading material available for use during the session either in hard copy or on a device that will not be used for conducting our online meeting (please bring have reading glasses ready, if needed).
SPEAKING VOICE & ACCENT TRAINING MATERIALS
Please have easy reading material available for use during the session either in hard copy or on a device that will not be used for conducting our online meeting (bring reading glasses if necessary).
SINGING VOICE TRAINING MATERIALS
Please have a few songs/pieces ready to work on which present challenges to your singing.
VOICE ERGONOMICS TRAINING MATERIALS
It is recommended that you download and print the .PDF Handout received in your initial confirmation e-mail. Otherwise, just a pen or pencil will be helpful for note taking.
Connect to Your Appointment:
At the time you schedule your appoitment, you will receive a confirmation e-mail containing the hyperlink used for entering the virtual waiting room. Your session will then be initiated by Drew at your scheduled appointment time (please stay in virtual waiting room until session starts). You will use this same hyperlink for all of your sessions at Douglass Voice Help.
NOTE TO THERAPY PATIENTS: Please complete and submit all the intake forms by the night before your session so that Drew can review them ahead of time for maximizing your evaluation time.
